Joseph Smith is not a horse!

Oh, the things little boys come up with...

A few days ago:
Mom: Parker, I told you not to lock the bathroom door!
Parker: I didn't, Mommy!
Mom: Who did? (only me, him, and Preston home)
Parker: I think it was Aunt Julie.
Mom: Aunt Julie lives in Portland. I don't think it was her.
Parker: My finger just did it.
(Looking at finger) Finger, don't do that ever again!
(Looking back to mom) My finger doesn't need to go to timeout. I already told it no.

Today in Primary
Teacher: What do you know about Nauvoo?
Boy in class: It's the town that Joseph Smith was the Mayor of.
Hayden: How dare you call Joseph Smith a horse?!?
All: Huh?
Hayden: I know that a mare (mayor) is a horse! Don't call Joseph Smith a horse. He was a prophet!

I'm glad he knows that. :)

Trick or Treat!

John, Hayden, and Parker at a Halloween carnival in Shelley.

These are our friends, the Frugolis, that we went to the carnival with.

My favorite pic of the night. (Just wish that Preston were in it too)
Notice Parker's finger. That is his hook.

Cakes I've made

I made this cake for my niece, Ashley's, wedding. I wish I had taken a picture of it set up at the wedding, but forgot to.

I made this cake for another ward that had a
birthday party for all of the sisters at once.
It looked better in person, I think (and hope).
Those leaves are made of gum paste and they were fun
to make, although quite time consuming.
I am always pretty up and down when making a cake. I am usually excited about it when planning, though sometimes nervous. Baking it is fine. Then I start decorating and things get crazy. I always either make way too much or barely too little frosting, especially of very important colors. Then I have the disappointing moment where my skill falls woefully short of the picture in my head (here's my inspiration for the b-day cake) and I start swearing that I will never decorate a cake again. Occasionally this phase includes a few 4-letter words, and always a large amount of lip chewing and talking to myself. Then I finish the cake and usually decide that it could be worse. Sometimes I am fairly happy with the outcome, but usually settle for not being embarrassed by my sorry efforts. Even with this, I almost always feel a great sense of accomplishment and start immediately thinking about what I will do next time I make a similar cake, always hoping that one of my cakes don't ever end up on this sight.
